Beacon Light Remixes Rachel Belman’s “The Broken”

After meeting California native and former Detroit Lion, Zack Follet, at a Lecrae show in September of 2010, Beacon was able to connect with up and coming artist, Rachel Belman. Rachel released her single, “The Broken” in October of 2010 with her album entitled, “In Your Light.” The song has done very well.

The Broken Remix has a message that is clear and true: people are broken. We need the love of a Savior and without Him there is no hope. The melody and the emotion of the song clearly portray this truth. “My inspiration for The Broken (the original) came from one of the hardest experiences I’ve ever gone through,” says Rachel, “Right after it happened I went home and sat on the piano, and here came a song, it was The Broken.” Rachel thanks God for the hard experience she went through. It has opened her eyes to the trials and hardships that so many people have to deal with, and it has truly helped her to relate to them so she can love them like Jesus Christ does.

After getting to know Rachel’s Manager and father, Gary Belman, Beacon Light jumped on board for The Broken Remix. Coupled by Jordan Stonehouse’s musical production and creativity, the song turned out great. “Remixing The Broken wasn’t exactly cliche,” said Beacon, “Rachel is a very good songwriter. The Broken is a very poetic piece of music. The lyrics paint a vidid picture, and it is not written in your typical format: ‘Chorus/Verse/Chorus/Verse/Chorus/Bridge/Chorus.’ The originality of the songwriting pushed Jordan and I toward a more creative end result. I’m really excited about the way it turned out.”

“Search My Heart O God”

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.” Psalm 139:23-24

Sometimes the hardest thing to face is yourself. Our own evil often brings us to a place in which we would rather keep our skeletons in our own closet. The thing is, we too often love the darkness, and do not want to bring own evil deeds into the light (John 3:19-20).

Why do we try to hide what cannot be hidden? Why do we sweep dirt under the rug and then act like the dirt isn’t there? Why do we clean the outside of the dish, so that it sparkles beautifully; but we leave the inside full of corroded garbage, so that NO ONE (including ourselves) would EVER want to eat or drink from it? (Matthew 23:25).

The Psalmist in the Scripture above has the right thought, “O LORD, I have sinned, search my heart. Show me what evil is inside of me. Look at the hurtful ways in me, and then lead me in the everlasting way.” What a great prayer!!! This is what our heart’s cry should be!!! Teach us O God the ways we sin against you, and purify us!!!

Always remember, everything will be exposed anyway (Revelation 20:12); but if we confess our sin’s and believe in Jesus Christ and His resurrection we will be forgiven and saved (1 John1:9; Romans 10:9-10).

So take this advice and truth: Ask God to search your heart in every way, ask Him to reveal the sin, confess Jesus Christ as Lord, and ask His Holy Spirit to guide you in the way of the everlasting.

My New Year’s Resolution

As we look forward into 2012, let’s focus on what is important. Christ said not to worry about tomorrow, that each day has enough trouble of it’s own (Matthew 6:24). That being said let’s live life day by day, diligently following Christ and trying to keep the faith and a good conscience (1 Tim. 1:5,19). In all things, let’s follow Christ and stay full of the Holy Spirit, in order that we will always be prepared for His unexpected return (Matthew 24-25). There are some who say the world will end in 2012, but Jesus Christ said that no one will know the day or hour (Matthew 24:36). So whether Christ returns today, or in 100 years, let’s always remain focused on what is important: living like Christ Jesus by faith. May our resolution always be to be prepared for His coming, day in and day out, so we can hear Him say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” (Matthew 25:21,23).

May God’s everlasting grace be with you and yours everyday, from 2012 until forever.

God is at Work

The All-Nighters of 2011

Recently I was able to do a couple youth group all-nighters. The first all-nighter was held at The River Church in Holly, MI near Detroit. It was a blast. The kids participated during the show and I believe the Gospel was truly heard by some (I say some because at a youth all-nighter, it can be hard for middle and high schoolers to stay focused). The other all-nighter I was a part of was held at Gun Lake Community Church in Wayland, MI. God really moved at this event. I could tell the kids were listening intently, and the Spirit seemed to be working in their hearts in a very real way. I had an awesome conversation with about seven or eight of the high school boys afterward. They all seemed very intentional about their relationships with Christ and living godly lives for His glory. One young man even decided to give His life to Christ then and there! It was so awesome! We all got to pray with him and it was truly a blessing to be used by God in such a way. He was a great young man and it was a honor to meet him and be a part of his life that night.

Beacon Light wins Unity Festival’s Talent Search

In August of 2011 Beacon Light was chosen as the winner of Unity Festival’s Talent Search Contest. There were seven other regional bands competing and somehow Beacon got chosen! Whoa!

The next step in the contest was to have fans vote, and vote they did. “Thank you all for voting in the talent search contest,” says Beacon. “I am still unsure of the final results though. All the votes go to a board of members who then make a final decision on who the winner will be. I am trying to wait patiently as well as you are and will being sharing the news either way as soon as I find out the end results. Thank you for your support!”

The Final Contest results, win or lose, will be posted for all to see.

Beacon Light to Open for Lecrae

In Detroit on Saturday, September 4th at Fellowship Chapel Hall Beacon Light will be opening for Lecrae Moore, another member and founder of Reach Records. Beacon is especially honored to be opening up for Lecrae, because Lecrae was used by God to encourage Beacon to use his musical talents to spread the Gospel to the world.
“I am really exited about opening for Lecrae,” says Beacon, “He has been used in my walk with Christ a lot, and to open for him is a huge deal for me. I’ve been blown away by his humility and focus on spreading truth and glorifying Christ, and that’s what I want to do to. He’s a good example of what a godly man should look like.”
Beacon Light will bring his band and do a fifteen minute set that Saturday, prepare to be blessed with truth, sincerity, and good music. The doors to the concert will open at 7:30 PM.

Overcomin’ Official Release

After three years of growing Spiritually with the Lord, writing songs, and recording, Beacon Light’s debut album entitled Overcomin’ was officially released on Friday, September 24th, 2010. The album features some great local Grand Rapids artists such as: Crucified, Emayus, Street Alert, M 2 Da KANG, Amber Williams, Kendra Beckman, and George Moss. Saginaw’s own Legend of Xero feature’s on a track, as does New Hampshire’s Animatronic the Abolisher. The album is very consistent and cohesive, yet it brings a new experimental sound that is not common to the cliche noise of mainstream hip hop.

Beacon’s vision for the album came to fruition in the summer of 2009 on a camping trip with some of the youth from Camp ROCK in Holland, MI. Camp ROCK is associated with the Holland Rescue Mission, and Beacon Light had grown to a place in ministry where he would have been content with not ever doing music again. However, while driving through a beautiful valley in Colorado, the Camp ROCKers asked to hear Beacon’s music. As the van was listening Beacon could see that his music was actually feeding them spiritually! It was then that Beacon Light knew he had to finish recording Overcomin’and release it.

After a little over a year of production and waiting the album has finally been released! It has been getting great reviews (including one from TheChristianManifesto.com listed below) and God has been blessing the music greatly. The official release party was held on Septemeber 24 at The Edge Urban Fellowship, Beacon’s home church. The party included appearances from B Coe, Surrender, Dai Low, Mark Evans, and Joe Guerra. Beacon closed the night out with a set of his own and those attending ended singing Awesome God a capella in unity. It was a beautiful start to the push of Beacon Light’s debut album.

Overcomin’ is available digitally on iTunesAmazonCDBaby, and Digstation. It is also available for physical purchase at Baker Book House in Grand Rapids, MI and the Family Christian Bookstore in Grandville, MI. Many people have been buying the album as a means to evangelize and replace spiritually sick music in their lives. It is a great gift for any hip hop or rap fan. May God bless the spreading of His word through this album and change the lives of the listeners.
